Fine Art is not just painting and drawing. One of our talented A2 students is producing a site specific art installation as part of his personal investigation unit.

A group of Art students just returned from a College trip to Auschwitz and are keen to express their experiences through the medium of Art. The trip was organised in conjunction with the Lessons From Auschwitz programme run by the Holocaust Educational Trust and links with the students’ Personal Investigation unit of their A2 studies.

"Visiting such a significant place in history was really overwhelming. Walking the same pathways as the victims and seeing there most treasured belongings was beyond moving and the day was absolutely amazing. It's one of those things that you cant imagine until you're there because you can't predict how you will react. AS Enrichment Day

Former Ashton Sixth Form student Samuel Stewart visited us today to show our AS students the principles of character design.

The Art Department now offer an Art foundation Course which sits between A' Levels and Degree Courses. This week our Foundation Students have been working collaboratively on a group project. The outcome was this intriguing and multifaceted installation.

This artwork was based on Cornelia Parker's recent exhibition at the Whitworth Art Gallery and draws inspiration from art movements such as arte povera and conceptualism.
